Memopezil Side Effects: Safety and Interactions Guide
Quick answerMost reported Memopezil side effects come from its three herbs.
Bacopa (200 mg) can upset the stomach or loosen stools, and rhodiola (100 mg) and Panax ginseng (90 mg) can disturb sleep. Take the 2 capsules in the morning, and ask your doctor first if you take antidepressants, blood thinners, blood pressure or diabetes prescriptions.
Memopezil file: side effectsWhat side effects can Memopezil cause?
Memopezil can cause mild side effects in some people, mostly stomach upset and trouble sleeping. Each one links back to a known ingredient.
The label prints every amount per 2-capsule serving: BCAAs 540 mg, bacopa 200 mg, rhodiola 100 mg, L-theanine 100 mg and Panax ginseng 90 mg. That lets you and your doctor match each effect to its source.
| Possible effect | Linked ingredient | How likely | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stomach upset or nausea | Bacopa | Among the most common for bacopa | Take with the full 8 oz of water; stop if it persists |
| Cramps or looser stools | Bacopa | Common at studied doses | Stop and call your doctor if it lasts more than a few days |
| Trouble sleeping | Rhodiola, Panax ginseng | The most common ginseng effect | Take the capsules in the morning only |
| Headache or dizziness | Rhodiola | Reported, not frequent | Sit down, drink water, stop if it returns |
| Dry mouth | Rhodiola | Reported, not frequent | Sip water through the day |
| Low blood sugar | Panax ginseng | Mainly a risk with diabetes medicine | Ask your doctor before you start |
| Extra drowsiness with sedatives | L-theanine | Possible with sedative drugs | Ask your doctor or pharmacist first |
| Swelling, hives or trouble breathing | Any ingredient | Rare | Stop at once and call 911 |
Can bacopa upset your stomach?
Yes. The most common bacopa side effects are stomach upset, nausea, cramps and more frequent stools (StatPearls, Bacopa). These were seen in trials that used 300 to 450 mg a day. Memopezil has 200 mg.
Taking the capsules with the full 8 oz glass of water the label asks for may help. If the upset lasts, stop and talk to your doctor.
Bacopa may also affect the liver enzymes that process many drugs, and it may affect thyroid medicine. Anyone on regular prescriptions should check first.
What side effects does rhodiola have?
Rhodiola has been linked to dizziness, headache, trouble sleeping and dry mouth (NCCIH, Rhodiola). NCCIH calls it possibly safe for up to 12 weeks, but says there is not enough reliable evidence for any health use.
Rhodiola may also interact with antidepressants, blood thinners, blood pressure drugs and stimulants (MSKCC, Rhodiola). Memopezil has 100 mg, standardized to 3% salidroside.
What should you know about Panax ginseng?
Insomnia is the most common side effect of Asian ginseng (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng). It may also lower blood sugar and affect blood clotting.
People with an autoimmune condition should ask their doctor before using ginseng, since it may act on the immune system. Tell your surgeon or dentist you take it before any procedure.
Memopezil has 90 mg of Panax ginseng extract per serving.
Is L-theanine likely to cause problems?
L-theanine is the mildest ingredient here. In one 4-week trial of 200 mg a day, no side effects were reported (Hidese et al., 2019).
The one known concern is that it may add to the drowsiness of sedative medicines (MSKCC, L-Theanine). If you take sleep medicine or anti-anxiety drugs, ask first. Memopezil has 100 mg.
What about the branched chain amino acids?
The 540 mg of BCAAs is the largest item by weight. Research on BCAAs and mental fatigue used about 7 to 10 grams during hard exercise (Blomstrand, 2006).
So the amount here is under a tenth of that. Our linked sources list no specific side effect at this level. As with any supplement, tell your doctor you take it.
Which medicines need a doctor's check first?
Several common medicines may interact with Memopezil's herbs. The table sorts them by drug type. More on each herb is on the ingredients page.
| If you take | Ingredient to ask about | The concern | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antidepressants | Rhodiola | Possible interaction | (MSKCC, Rhodiola) |
| Blood thinners | Rhodiola, Panax ginseng | Possible interaction; ginseng may affect clotting | (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng) |
| Blood pressure medicine | Rhodiola | Possible interaction | (MSKCC, Rhodiola) |
| Stimulants | Rhodiola | Possible interaction | (MSKCC, Rhodiola) |
| Insulin or diabetes pills | Panax ginseng | May lower blood sugar further | (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng) |
| Thyroid medicine | Bacopa | May affect thyroid medicine | (StatPearls, Bacopa) |
| Drugs processed by the liver | Bacopa | May affect drug-processing enzymes | (StatPearls, Bacopa) |
| Sedatives or sleep medicine | L-theanine | May add to drowsiness | (MSKCC, L-Theanine) |
Why take Memopezil in the morning?
Morning dosing protects your sleep. Rhodiola and ginseng can both cause insomnia, so an evening dose is more likely to keep you up.
The label says to take two capsules daily with 8 oz of water, 20-30 minutes before a meal. The brand's info page adds "in the morning". Breakfast is a simple fit. The how to use page covers timing in more detail.
Stick to the label dose
Never take more than two capsules a day. The label says do not exceed the recommended dose.
Who should avoid Memopezil or ask a doctor first?
The label asks pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition to consult a physician first.
Under 18
Not intended for children or teens, per the label.
Pregnant or nursing
Ask your physician before taking it.
Autoimmune conditions
Ginseng may act on the immune system.
Diabetes medicine
Ginseng may lower blood sugar further.
Blood thinners
Rhodiola and ginseng may affect clotting.
Thyroid, mood or blood pressure drugs
Bacopa and rhodiola may interact.
If you are unsure whether it fits you, see who it is for and bring the label to your next appointment.
How can you start Memopezil safely?
A careful start makes it easier to spot a problem early. These habits cost nothing and take a few minutes.
Show the label first
Bring the bottle or the Supplement Facts to your doctor or pharmacist before the first dose.
Morning with water
Take 2 capsules with 8 oz of water, 20-30 minutes before breakfast.
Keep short notes
Jot down sleep, stomach and energy for the first two weeks.
One change at a time
Avoid starting other new supplements in the same weeks, so any effect is easier to trace.
The full dosing routine is on the how to use page, and the printed panel is on the Supplement Facts page.
When should you stop and call a doctor?
Stop at once for allergy signs
Swelling of the face, lips or throat, hives or trouble breathing need emergency care. Call 911.
Stop for lasting stomach trouble
Nausea, cramps or loose stools that last more than a few days are a reason to stop and call your doctor.
Watch your sleep
If you sleep badly for several nights after starting, stop and tell your doctor.
Check blood sugar signs
Shakiness, sweating or confusion while on diabetes medicine can mean low blood sugar. Follow your doctor's plan.
Report unusual bruising or bleeding
Ginseng may affect clotting. Call your doctor, especially if you take a blood thinner.
What does the research not tell us about safety?
No study has tested the finished Memopezil capsule. The safety data come from single ingredients, often at higher doses and over 12 weeks or less.
That means long-term use of this exact mix has not been studied. Lower doses may mean milder effects, but no one can promise that.
Can side effects hide a memory problem?
Sometimes the reverse happens. Memory changes can come from medicine side effects, low vitamin B12, thyroid problems, depression or poor sleep (NIA, memory and aging).
A supplement cannot sort those causes out. If memory changes are new or getting worse, see a doctor first. No supplement is a treatment for dementia (NCCIH, supplements and cognition).
